JOB SUMMARY:
Provides analytical, technical, administrative
and communication skills necessary to respond to Texas Public Information Act
requests served on the University.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Jointly supervises, motivates, manages,
directs, coordinates and evaluates the work of legal secretaries, clerk,
interns/externs as they assist in responding to information requests.
- Advises and directs all department
administrators or their designees, as necessary, in the coordination of
responses to requests for information.
- Works directly with UT System Public
Information Coordinator and the Office of General Counsel in drafting legal
arguments and preparing briefs to the Attorney General arguing exceptions to
disclosure under the Texas Public Information Act.
- Reviews documentation gathered and
evaluates the responsiveness of the documents. Maintains confidentiality
and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Dockets, manages and prioritizes
numerous requests under stringent statutory timelines.
- Skillfully manages communications with
all departments within the University to locate, gather and compile
responsive information.
- Researches Texas Statutes, prior
opinions and case law for allowable exceptions to disclosure.

Prepares weekly summaries of requests and
prepares monthly summaries as required by the State Legislature.

Investigates and responds to complaints of
overcharges sent to the Attorney General Costs Administrator.

Assists with the coordination of
government/legislative issues with respect to state statutes regarding the
Public Information Act.
- Adheres to internal controls and
reporting structure.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent or Legal
Assistant Certification and two years related experience.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment.

Standard office environments.
