JOB SUMMARY: The Web Communications and Operations Manager plays a key role in web development at UTMB, both for the institution overall and for the Office of University Advancement as a department. The position reports to the Director of Internal and Internet Communications and AVP for Public Affairs. This role is responsible for driving, developing, maintaining, improving, implementing, trouble-shooting, assisting with, advising on, overseeing and guiding all manner of web-related endeavors for the office and for the institution. MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS: · Develop, improve and continually manage and maintain the UTMB home pages, to include current news, calendar and event information. · Develop, improve and continually maintain a growing number of institutional communication and marketing pages aimed at both internal and external audiences. · Serve as the primary back up to the Director of Internal and Internet Communications for crisis, critical or emergency communication. · Work as a liaison with Information Services to ensure a smooth interface between the institution’s promotional goals, web objectives and technical capabilities. · Be a leader of and a resource for campus web publishers: understand the campus, its needs and most beneficial solutions. Help promote learning opportunities which will ultimately deepen the pool and increase the level of web expertise on campus. Be a representative/advocate/champion for the campus web developer community on campus. · Develop and maintain widely useful communication tools for UTMB (web calendar, web-based daily announcements). · Promote UTMB’s web sites/work to increase web traffic. Review log files/reports and use them to UTMB’s advantage; be able to track trends, and make decisions based on log results. · Stay abreast of security and legal issues surrounding web site implementations; support UTMB’s compliance. Manage university style online and clarify and communicate related web standards.
· Work collaboratively with the Director of Internal and Internet Communications and others in the department to develop and maintain a family of web sites supporting the objectives of the Office of University Advancement (departmental home, campaign, etc). · Work with staff in Public Affairs to create and maintain a current, comprehensive and interactive news section to support the department’s varied media activities. · Work as an integral part of the Internal Communications team, helping to shape and lead the team as it uses different venues (many of them online) for a common goal: to enhance the culture and environment at UTMB through ever-better communication. · Be the primary person charged with OUA’s conversion of printed material into appealing web documents.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in communications, information systems, design, or a related field, and three years of experience working professionally in the Internet/intranet/web field. EQUIPMENT: Standard office equipment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Standard office environment.
