JOB SUMMARY:

Provides complex level desktop, server, network, and conferencing (hardware and software) technical support, requiring complex levels of technical skills to maintain existing UTMB computer systems, to include off-Island locations, with extensive day trip travel and possible overnight travel with appropriate approval, and supervises assigned staff on field network team. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·        Supervises assigned staff of Field Network System Support providing project, process, and daily guidance

·        Administers  evaluations and provides recommendations for promotions and merit increases of direct reports

·        Provides hiring recommendations in regards to new technicians

·        Provides project team leadership on internal and external projects, reporting to management as necessary and assuring the completion of moderately complex projects

·        Provides complex level analysis, administering, and maintaining the performance of local and wide area networks

·        Mentors and trains new staff on existing processes and methodologies

·        Maintains all necessary desktop computer software applications and operating systems

·        Supports and deploys system images via departmental standards.

·        Installs necessary cabling as necessary for network, telephone, and video connections.

·        Establishes a standard product such as a switch, a router, a server, a desktop computer, a laptop, a printer, a scanner, etc. based on requirements and instruction from me and associated documentation.

·        Creates a method of support for something, a way to fix a particular problem, a technical methodology for fixing a problem and thoroughly documents the process, typically a step by step process

·        Provides backup support for other team members

·        Evaluates new hardware for standard operations

·        Serves as project team lead on both internal and external projects reporting to management as necessary and assuring the completion of moderately complex projects

·        Provides both local and server base scripting and productivity programming as necessary

·        Designs complex networking environments including necessary topology and protocols

·        Pioneer complex processes around new and applicable technologies which benefits UTMB as a whole

·        Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree or equivalent in related field and four years like/related experience.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

In State and some Federal prisons, as well as other off-Island clinics, clients, and customers both local and remote.

OTHER:

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.

State Security clearance is required, and Federal Security clearance may be required as well.
