JOB SUMMARY:
Creates, directs and teaches several Educational Outreach programs to
pre-college level students. In addition, promotes careers in medicine,
biomedical research, nursing and allied health sciences to pre-college students
as well as within the undergraduate university student population.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
- Plans and coordinates
career awareness initiatives among pre-college students designed to explore
career opportunities in the health sciences and biomedical research fields.
- Designs, directs and
teaches science enrichment programs aimed at Pre-K through middle school level
students.
- Establishes and refines
evaluation and measurement tools to determine the effectiveness and impact of
programs on program participants.
- Facilitates student
groups visiting the UTMB campus for information on medical and research
opportunities.

Plans and conducts classroom presentations to
carry the vision of higher education in science to youth in the greater
Galveston County community.

Organizes and schedules supplemental student
recruitment efforts for all four schools especially efforts to increase the
number of under-represented students at UTMB.

Coordinates and manages the logistics
supporting the Annual Regional Science Teachers Conference as well as the
Expanding Your Horizons Conference.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting
structure.

Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in basic science or equivalent and one year of related
experience.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office and general laboratory equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Standard office environment and teaching laboratory
environment. Travel may be required.
