JOB SUMMARY:
To promote growth of UTMB’s research program by working directly with industry,
government and other universities and institutions. Supports all areas of the
research program including clinical research, intellectual property and basic
research through marketing and development partnerships. Serves as liaison
between sponsors, UTMB faculty and the Research Service development areas.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

Assists the Director in creating, developing
and implementing innovative and complex licensing strategies.

Assists the Director in licensing intellectual
property that may be the platform for UTMB startup companies.

Provides supervision and direction to the
Licensing Associate.

Takes the lead in complex licensing
negotiations.

Identifies strengths, faculty and available
intellectual property, related to basic research to identify potential
licensees.

Attends workshops and seminars to increase
knowledge of the school’s programs and departmental units as well as faculty’s
research programs.

Represents UTMB in outreach activities and
other events.

Identifies and interacts with licensing
sources for UTMB technology.

Assists the Director in implementing marketing
strategies to maximize UTMB intellectual property.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting
structure.

Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

Possesses scientific knowledge and
understanding of research applications in healthcare

Excellent professional verbal and written
communications skills

Proven ability to engage executive leaders of
industry, academia, and government entities to establish good business
relations

Known for innovative approach in creating
goals and objectives and a plan for achieving results

Works well independently, self-directed and
motivated
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in science or related field or equivalent and 5 years related
experience in licensing university technology to the pharmaceutical or
biomedical industry.
