JOB SUMMARY:
To assist in the coordination of the commercialization of technology within
UTMB.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

Assist the Technology Managers to encourage
faculty to disclose inventions resulting from research, in pursuit of securing
appropriate protections and potential public benefit through
commercialization.

Manages a portfolio of patents. Coordinates
all patent activities including legal requirements and financial and status
reporting. Have oversight in handling aspects of the invention disclosure
process including receiving and processing disclosure information and other
patent documents.

Provides assistance in the Development and
implementation of a marketing strategy for inventions, technologies,
copyrights and tangibles. Provide coordination skills for UTMB’s Center for
Technology Development through industry media communications, trade shows, and
other public forums.

Assist in performing federal reporting and
managing communications with outside patent counsel.

Assist in negotiating Confidential Disclosure
Agreements, Material Transfers, Options, and Sponsored Research and License
Agreements. Monitors agreements for compliance. Ensures compliance with
federal reporting requirements.

Assist the Technology Managers in the
licensing process by evaluating the commercial potential of inventions; and
performing market research or Web based patent searches; identifying potential
licensees.

Assist in the post-transaction phase by
supervising licensee compliance with both financial and non financial
contractual terms of licenses.

Coordinates all technology transfer activities
with other UTMB departments such as OUA, Legal, working under supervision of
the Director of TMO.

Adheres to university policies and internal
controls established for the department.

Handles special projects as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor Degree in Science or Business or equivalent in related field and two
years of related experience in the area of biomedical research technology,
business planning or marketing scientific technologies.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Standard office environment, some travel required.
