JOB SUMMARY: To provide academic, career, and psychological support services through individual and group counseling and workshops. This position supports the educational mission of the School of Nursing, Office of Student Affairs/Admissions by acting as Academic Advisor and Student Retention Coordinator. As Academic Advisor/ Retention Coordinator, this individual serves as a resource to both students and faculty in matters related to student test taking strategies, time management, and preparation for national licensure (NCLEX-RN©). In addition, this position will support the mission and objectives of the Admissions and Recruitment programs. MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS: § Collaborates with faculty and students to develop and facilitate undergraduate and graduate academic counseling and retention program. § Establishes clear procedures to assist faculty and students regarding indications for referral to academic counseling using Student Early Alert Tracking System (SEATS) § Develops and facilitates content specific workshops on topics such as test taking, study skills, time management, stress management, self esteem, and other student success areas. § Provides group sessions related to study skills, test-taking strategies, and time management. § Assesses students for non-academic stressors that may have an impact upon academic progress and make appropriate referrals. § Provides and/or identifies appropriate resource persons to provide support services/remediation for participants as requested. § Maintains accurate records related to academic counseling. § Consults with faculty regarding improvements in the advising program determined by best practices related to academic advising. § Assists in the development and facilitation of a review program to prepare participants for board exams. § Practices ongoing evaluation of the academic advising program. § Provides advisement of all students. § Provides academic counseling services to students during evening and weekend hours, as needed. § Assists with preadmission advising by reviewing applications, transcripts & admissions files. § Provides program information to potential applicants, current students, staff, faculty and administrators. § Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. § Performs related duties as required. REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: § Bachelor’s degree in nursing, education, psychology, or related field § Exceptional written & verbal communication skills § Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously EQUIPMENT: Standard office equipment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Standard office working environment.
