JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Educator develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive plan for meeting the educational needs and to provide educational support to the Respiratory Care staff, other healthcare providers, and patients. MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS: · Develops, implements, and evaluates orientation programs for assigned employees and other employees as appropriate. · Collaborates with the Program Manager, Supervisors, and Respiratory Care staff to assess the learning needs and competencies. · Develops, implements, and evaluates in-service programs utilizing adult learning theory, and appropriate teaching and evaluation modalities/methods with programming. · Develops, implements, and evaluates patient education programs as needed to support staff. · Coordinates and participates in educational joint ventures with the Respiratory Care Programs in the community · Actively participates in and promotes the development of self and others. · Maintains clinical and educational competence to include direct patient care when necessary/appropriate. · Practices and promotes patient/family advocacy and assists in the maintenance of ethical practice. · Practices, promotes and participates in positive guest and peer relations. · Participates in and promotes quality improvement activities and research activities. · Demonstrates a high level of productivity and dependability. · Adheres to internal controls established for department. · Performs related duties as required. REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: · Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or related field. · Five years of experience in respiratory care at the registered therapist level · Registration with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) · Current licensure by the Texas Department of Health as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) · Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). EQUIPMENT: Standard and specialized respiratory care patient care equipment, related supplies, and mechanical devices. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: · Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area. · Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort. · Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients. · Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs. · Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication. · Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs. · Shift work may be required. · Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury. · May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients. · May be required to be on standby and work extended shifts in situations deemed necessary by a designated Executive Director and/or Clinical Administrator.
