JOB SUMMARY:

 To provide operational management and leadership for quality improvement projects in association with the Oliver Center for Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Lead Oliver Center quality improvement projects with direct accountability to Center Medical Director

  • Function as the leader for center staff and operations with direct accountability to Center Director

  • Coordinate day to day operations and tasked with decision making responsibility

  • Provides expertise in healthcare quality improvement methodology

  • Take lead in the hiring of staff as needed

  • Identify, plan, and execute Oliver Center quality improvement projects.

  • Form and lead multi-disciplinary teams in improvement projects, requires strong leadership skills as well as collaboration skills

  • Responsible for developing project goals and measures

  • Develop and execute strategic planning for the Center

  • Lead project teams in selecting changes to implement and measuring the effect of those changes

  • Learn and utilize the concepts of statistical process control

  • Work with Center Director in the creation, development and submission of grant proposals, abstracts, manuscripts, publications and slide presentations

  • Work with UTMB Chief Quality Officer and other  institutional leadership to integrate successful changes across institution

  • Develop a quality improvement curriculum to teach quality improvement across the institution

  • Lead in the education of institutional staff in quality improvement ideas and methodology

  • Promote a culture of "Passion for patient safety and quality healthcare" throughout UTMB.

  • Adheres to internal controls established for the department

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

BSN with three years of clinical experience. Must possess and maintain a current RN license or valid permit to practice in Texas.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments. Requires the ability to work a flexible schedule when needed.

This position will require a variable amount of travel. Initial travel will be mostly related to training while travel after the first year will include more collaboration and outreach.  Anticipated travel each year between 2-8 weeks.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
